Golden Gloves has added an exciting new dimension to the Kevin Lerena-Johnny Muller cruiserweight fight at Emperors Palace on April 24.

Revealing the news on Tuesday morning, promoter Rodney Berman unveiled an intriguing four-man tournament that will see the winner fight former world title challenger Roberto Bolonti on June 11.

The loser will be matched a little tougher with world-rated Micki Nielsen, the unbeaten Danish southpaw who holds the WBC International title.

The two winners will then advance to the final on October 22 where a $100 000 purse will be split 60-40. Assuming one of the winners is either Muller or Lerena, he stands to pocket around R1,5-million.

Berman has previously been down this road, in a sense, with the Super 8, but he believes this is superior, with higher calibre fighters.

“We have four very credible opponents. It should be far more competitive,” he said.

Bolonti is very much the gatekeeper of the division, having fought top fighters Tony Bellew, Juergen Braehmer, Jean Pascal and Danny Green.

Golden Gloves promoted the Argentine in Monte Carlo last year, where he fought Youri Kalenga.

Nielsen, unbeaten in 21 starts, will probably start as favourite. He is rated number five by the IBF and seven by the WBO.
