Unbeaten Bejenaru offered another taste of ‘The Rock’

Constantin Bejenaru beating Thabiso Mchunu last year.

Unbeaten cruiserweight Constantin Bejenaru, who upset Thabiso Mchunu last year, has been offered a two-fight deal by Golden Gloves.

If he decides to take it, the first part of the arrangement will be a rematch with Mchunu at Emperors Palace on June 23.

In the event of winning, he could then face Kevin Lerena, provided the IBO champion is successful in his next title defence in Europe late next month.

If the Moldovan fighter opts not to sign, promoter Rodney Berman will move swiftly along, trying to lure an upmarket opponent for Mchunu.

If this doesn’t materialise, he says he will likely look to get Ryno Liebenberg back on track against a recognisable big name at light-heavyweight. Although the lights appeared to have dimmed on Liebenberg’s career, he boxed superbly against Vincent Feigenbutz recently, a performance trainer Colin Nathan described as “the best of his career”.

While there is a tournament at Emperors Palace on April 8 to worry about, Berman is well advanced with plans for June. They include an IBO Youth title shot for Rowan Campbell and a high-profile outing for Thulani Mbenge.
