Word on the street is that Tommy Oosthuizen is knuckling down and working hard ahead of his September 1 showdown against Thabiso Mchunu at Emperors Palace.
The reports are true. Golden Gloves popped in to his workout at Harold Volbrecht’s Boksburg gym on Monday and Oosthuizen looked every inch the model pro. After 30 minutes of hard training, working the pads, the speed ball and the pear ball, he was caked in sweat, but breathing easily and ready for more.
Tomorrow he’ll be sparring with Manny Fernandes’ cruiserweight prospect Youssef Mwanza Kasongo and on Friday he’ll be in Joburg working out with former stablemate Junior Makabu at Damien Durandt’s gym.
“Feeling great,” he said. “I’m happy to be back.”
“We’re on track,” said trainer Harold Volbrecht. “At his best, no-one can touch him.”
