KO Komanisi can land the prize

Lusanda Komanisi has all the incentive he needs when he fights Michael Mokoena at Emperors Palace this weekend.

The former IBO featherweight champion stands in line for a crack at the vacant WBA International title, although this prize will fall the way of Mokoena if he upsets the comebacking Komanisi.

“The winner will be guaranteed a high ranking in the WBA,” says promoter Rodney Berman.

Komanisi hasn’t fought in almost a year, but now under new management – and a new division – he is amped to re-charge his career.

“He’s been looking great in the gym,” says Jeff Ellis of African Ring. “Mokoena will want to grab his chance, but Komanisi will come hard. The kid is itching to make a successful comeback.”

Komanisi (21-4) is one of the heaviest punchers around, a two-fisted dynamo who wreaks havoc when he sees an opening. Indeed, with eight KOs in his last nine wins, there’s emphatic proof of his status as a danger man.

Mokoena has been warned.
