Tommy Oosthuizen is coming to the boil nicely for his big US debut
With less than a fortnight to go to Tommy Oosthuizen’s big fight against Aaron Pryor jnr, reports have come in from the US that the South African’s fight camp is going brilliantly.
Trainer Harold Volbrecht was on the phone to Rodney Berman earlier this week, saying that they had settled in well in Biloxi where the weather is warm and the gym is well equipped.
According to Volbrecht, they have received top-class sparring daily, although “Tommy Gun” was too hot for one sparring partner who took a pasting and never returned.
“Harold assures me he’s looking devastating,” said Berman, who will be travelling to the fight next week. “I keep on telling him how important this is. Tommy can’t afford to look anything other than fantastic. It’s a big bill and the who’s who of boxing will be there. Plus it’s on coast-to-coast television, so he has to make a statement.”
Oosthuizen has been joined in the gym by former WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto, who is heading the fight card against IBF champion Jan Zaveck.

Thats great news. We should all keep clear minds though. Most boxers look brilliant before fights. Recently, Zab Judah looked brilliant, but he was KO’ed.. Its all about fight night.. Sparring should be on par in training at this stage with getting the fight plan and Tommys mindset correct… All the best.. A win is a win, dont look for KO’s and stuff. that will be a bonus..

This is to Mr Berman.
When can we see the sale of your tournaments on DVD?
I think that will be a great thing for Golden Gloves to produce.
Just a thought, there is many ways of getting the public to remember your great boxers.
