While trainer Manny Fernandes claims that his undefeated IBO Africa and WBA Pan African lightweight champion Jason “Badman” Bedeman (12-0-2, with 9 knockouts) is still “a work in progress”, he feels his aggressive charge’s third round demolition over the fancied Bongani Dlamini at Emperors Palace on June 19, has bolstered his fighter’s confidence enormously and Fernandes has no fear or trembling of seeing his lion-hearted pugilist take on a highly rated international opponent.
“At age 21 the Badman is one of those rare finds and I’ve no doubt that he’ll thrive on more regular action, hopefully against opponents who’ll extend him further than the likes of Grant Fourie and Bongani Dlamini managed to do” said Fernandes.
An fiery two-fisted slugger with a growing fan base, Bedeman, who hails from the Southern Suburbs of Johannesburg, has constantly proved his detractors wrong and though he’s essentially a come-forward warrior who relishes mixes at close quarters, Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman probably summed things up well when he recently quipped; “By now we know that Jason is a poster pin-up for tough guys, but whose complaining? No one should expect to hear Elvis sing like Caruso?”
Not that there’s anything melodious about the Badman’s bellicose sermons and given the opportunity to extend his range of endeavours, one suspects that the Badman may become a bona fide contender for international honours.
“Bedeman is still very young but when you consider how he’s grown in terms of confidence and overall status it’s no wonder Fernandes is imploring GGP to set up a bout with an internationally recognised fighter” said former Boxing Express managing editor Laurie Houston.
Berman, however, is mindful that the roaring Bedeman is still a burgeoning star and despite his obvious strengths; power, courage and work ethic, the Rosettenville-based fighter still has much to learn before he’s ready for the bigger guns in the lightweight division.
“Having said that I’m clearly convinced that Jason deserves a crack at a recognised overseas fighter or fringe contender and over the next week we’ll be finalising plans for him to feature on a major bill, either here at Emperors Palace or abroad” concluded Berman.

WOW! Jason, you set Emperor’s alight with your stoppage of Dlamini. Great performance – and you showed terrific potential. Your punching ability is great – now just look to tightening up your defence and you can go all the way. Best wishes and good luck.
