Isaac “The Golden Boy” Chilembe (14-1, 8 knockouts) will be one of the star performers on a Ricky Hatton Promotional bill in London on March 26.
In confirming details of Chilembe’s fight, Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman said; “Isaac deserves this outing and while we haven’t as yet established who he’ll be fighting, it’s a marvelous opportunity for the Golden Boy to display his marvelous talent in front of a huge British television audience”.
The current WBC International light heavyweight champion, by virtue of his brilliant points victory over the then unbeaten Doudou Ngumba last year, the 22-year-old Chilembe will undoubtedly be pleasing on the eye of English boxing purists who always appreciate a boxer with refined talent. “We have a very good working relationship with Ricky Hatton Promotions” said Berman, “and Ricky’s manager and business adviser Gareth Williams only flew out of South Africa this morning after spending a fair degree of time in the country”.
Berman says that RH Promotions are decidedly keen to feature Chilembe on their March tournament, particularly after previously seeing the Malawi-born boxer fight in South Africa during 2009.
“Gareth assures me that Chilembe will be very popular in England, given his wide variety of skills and personal magnetism. Now trained by respected mentor Elias Tshabalala, you can expect Isaac to refine his considerable potential and move to the next level in professional boxing. Certainly he has the talent with which to fight for a world title sometime in 2010, and depending upon his performance in London, he could very well feature on our mammoth June 18 event at Emperors Palace”.
Chilembe is one of several young Golden Gloves Promotions’ boxers who’ve won titles in 2009, the others being Hekkie “The Hex-ecutioner” Budler, Jason “Badman” Bedeman, Lovemore Ndou and Tommy “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen.
Then too, Berman hopes to flaunt his recently acquired WBA Intercontinental bantamweight champion Tshifhiwa “The Atomic Spider” Munyai in front of an overseas television audience sometime during the next six months.
