The African Ring/Golden Gloves Promotions “GUNNING FOR GLORY” Box & Dine event at Emperors Palace on April 27 has been fully concluded and judging by the product mix, fans can expect to see a number of blistering fights!
Heading this charity event, which is in aid of underprivileged people in Tembisa, is a 10-round international super middleweight contest between South Africa’s top super middleweight and current WBA Pan African titleholder Tommy “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen (10-0) and Mexico’s hard slugging Saul Roman (37-6). “Tommy will no doubt have his hands full with Roman, who despite being a natural middleweight, is a tricky livewire and debilitating puncher” said African Ring’s man-about-boxing Jeff Ellis. Meanwhile, Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman has assured the lanky Oosthuizen that an impressive win on the night will pave the way for a crack at the IBO world super middleweight title on the Emperors Palace “BLOCKBUSTER” tournament on June 19. “Tommy cannot take this Mexican lightly” said Berman, “and despite the fact that Roman has previously competed as a junior middleweight, he sets a cracking pace and can render an opponent unconscious with either hand”.
Then there’s the GGP debuts of both Johnny “Hurricane” Muller (5-0-1) and former MMA fighter Chaz “Bad News” Wasserman, who makes his entry into the professional boxing scene. Both men are trained by former SA welterweight king Harold “The Hammer” Volbrecht and are managed by two-time Hall of Famer Brian Mitchell.
Incidentally, although both Volbrecht and Mitchell believe that the murderous hitting Muller should concentrate his efforts on the cruiserweight division, the 19-year-old Hurricane will enter the fray at Emperors Palace in a slated 4-round heavyweight bout against Paty Mogenda. The fledgling Wasserman will likely take on Benny Nkanyane in a 4-round contest in the super middleweight ranks!
Local heavyweight crowd-puller Flo “The Demolition Man” Simba (3-0) will be looking to extend his knockout run when he takes on the far more experienced Wiseman Dlomo ( 6-7-2) over a scheduled 6 rounds. Dlomo is certainly the trickiest opponent that the 20-year-old Simba has encountered, and his resume speaks of bouts against all the leading heavyweights in the country, including Osborne Machimana (the present SA champion), Anton Nel, Bull Muravha and Jake Els, as well as a hard fought draw with current hotshot attraction Johnny “Hurricane” Muller in their last respective outings “This fight will answer a lot of questions regarding Simba’s ongoing development and while the Demolition Man flattened all three of his previous rivals, I’m betting that Dlomo will extend him to the full” said Jeff Ellis.
Exciting lightweight prospect Bongani Dlamini gets his first real chance to impress the promoters when he squares up to Takalani Dangala over 10 rounds and former four-time world champion Zolani “Untouchable” Marali will be attempting to get back on the winning track when he faces menacing knockout artist Kgotla “Bang Bang” Baeti over 10 rounds in a lightweight bout.
“This tournament roster is one of our most appealing of the year and I doubt whether there’ll be place to swing a cat when the lights dim at Emperors Palace” concluded GGP Promoter Rodney Berman.

I don’t quite know about the easy fight for Johnny Ronel, never underestimate any opponent. Come one Johnny, we are hungry for another dynamite knock out from you… Good luck Flo, also don’t underestimate Wiseman Dlomo, while not very fast, he is very tough and doesn’t go down easily.

Another tournament I won’t miss for the world. Thanks GGP for putting it together. Flo keep up your hands and don’t be caught with a counterpunch. Johnny I will especially attend to see that powerful punch in action.

Great bill GGP. 4 Rounds will be a breeze for the young Muller, he is fit and as you say, murderous hitting. Another KO hopefully for this talented boxer.

Certainly a good test for Tommy. A bit worried for Flo though. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan but Wiseman has improved and is very tough. Johnny boy I will be watching and cheering for you all the way.

Flo my man, keep up the defences and you will succees with the big man Wiseman. Johnny bro, you have my support, a knock out should be too difficult.

Sounds like an awesome bill !!! as asked before, does anyone know if this will be televised ?

The young Muller should just focus and plant that deadly right hand at the right moment, after all, it comes naturally to him. Tommy will have a good match and we should really see his strenghs in this fight. Simba should be very equally matched. Good luck to all.

Its a great feeder for Tommygun, Roman has a good KO ratio but at the end of the day is a middleweight who has been kayoed by some of the top guys out there and has trouble with southpaws…

Apologies Johnny, I meant to say a knock out should NOT be too difficult. Do what you do best bru.

Ok Britt, you start…. up and coming fights on the 27th…. lets start predicting!
April 22, 2010 at 12:49 pm, Danny D . said:
OK, I predict that flo is going to knock Wiseman Dlomo out in 3rd round!!!!
April 22, 2010 at 1:04 pm, Britt said:
Okay let’s see.
Thomas “Tommy-Gun” Oosthuizen will beat Saul Roman T.K.O in the 10th round of their 10round battle.
Flo “the demolition man” Simba will win on unanimous decision over the well experienced Wiseman Dlomo
Johnny “The hurricane” Muller will win on a 2nd K.O over Paty Mogenda
Chaz “Bad News” Wasserman will beat he’s opponent on a 3rd round T.K.O
Bongani Dlamini Will also beat Takalani Dangala on a unanimous decision victory.
Zolani “Untouchably” Marali will make a splendour come back when he stop’s Kgotla “Bang Bang” Baeti with a 6 round T.K.O
And that’s my predictions folks; let’s see how close you could predict the fight results.
April 22, 2010 at 1:46 pm, FanoftheGUN said:
Does anyone know on what channel, and at what time the Bill will be televised ?
April 22, 2010 at 2:31 pm, Jonathan said:
I think Tommy will win in the 6th round TKO if he keeps he’s hands up.
the most exciting on this bill to watch out for, is the lightweights on the night because there is alot at stake, now that Jason Bedeman is injured it give the outdated Zolani a chance to prove he is not done.
Then I would like to see The BADMAN in action.
April 22, 2010 at 2:45 pm, Jono said:
ummmm, ok I think that…
Tommy my man, will win by TKO in the 9th round
Flo, will win on points
Johnny will win on points
Chaz I think will have a draw
Bongani, defiantly will win with a KO
and Zolani mmmmmmm think maybe 10th round stoppage!
So how much money we betting here folks….
Hey and is Jason still signed with GGP? What’s going on there… and who’s Zolani’s trainer?
April 23, 2010 at 12:23 pm, Shawn said:
Ok here goes.
TKO for Tommy in the 5th round
Sorry Flo, I’ll be cheering for you but I think you’re in for a hard time beating Wiseman.
Johnny will win with a KO in the 2nd round
Chas, a hard fight for you, but you’ll win on points
Bongani will win on points
I predict a KO for Zolani in the 6th round.
Good luck guys.
April 23, 2010 at 1:06 pm, fight fan said:
Sorry
This time Zolani you might be stopped for good.
Kgotla has a punch. And Zolani is not ready for it. I believe Zolani might be stopped.
Any way let the best man win.
Bongani you are so lucky that Jason could not make this. Remember your younger days you could not take a hard punch then. Can you know?
April 23, 2010 at 1:38 pm, Britt said:
Fight fan arguably I think Zolani still has the potential to be what he was back in the day’s I rate you are going to be wrong on this one my dear friend.

I’ve only recently been informed that the tournament will NOT go out live but that there will be one SuperSport camera at the event. Hopefully this will form part of an edited “package” that will later be televised.
