When boxing returns to Emperors Palace on Monday and Tuesday night next week, all eyes will be on the outstanding crop of “young lions” in the Golden Gloves Promotional camp. These include WBA Pan African lightweight champion Jason “Badman” Bedeman, Grant “The Fireball” Fourie, Flo “The Demolition Man” Simba and Joey Stiglingh. The two tournaments are being promoted by African Ring, in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions and will act as an ideal prelude to the other Emperors Palace tournaments on April 27 and June 19 (yes, the June extravaganza has now been moved to the 19th instead of the 18th ).
“The Monday night bill is a straight forward pay-at-the-door tournament” said Jeff Ellis, “but naturally Tuesday night’s action takes the form of a Box & Dine that will be held to assist raise funds for legendary sportswriter Rodney Hartman, who is fighting cancer”.
The Monday night menu, however, is surprisingly exciting and headlines with an eight round lightweight bout between Jason Bedeman and the talented Luyanda Jacko.
Then too, Grant “The Fireball’ Fourie will be fighting as a junior lightweight for the first time and has a tough assignment ahead of him when he meets the decidedly underrated Joseph Modise over 6 rounds.
Heavyweight sensation Flo Simba will be looking to make it four knockouts in a row when he squares up to former Baby Champ ace Mongezi Nzamela over a slated six rounds, and the bill is adequately stocked with exciting young newcomers such as heavyweight Simon Webb VS Fikile Nyalungu (4 rounds), Sylvester Zaki VS Mitus Diseko (4-round middleweight) and Raymond Bloom VS Wensley Buys (4-rounds 60 kg catchweight). The other two bouts on the Monday night agenda feature Morne Bothma VS Cebo Ngema (4-rounds bantamweight) and Christiaan Visser VS Prince Ndlovu (4-rounds featherweight).
Tuesday night the focus shifts to a vacant SA light heavyweight title contest over 12 rounds between Rupert Van Aswegen and the unbeaten Balemo Weliya and the main undercard fight sees popular heavyweight Basil Ray step up to face Nsitu Mbaya over 6 rounds.
The other bouts on the bill read as follows:
Rudi Bruwer VS Jerry Tlhoaela (4 rounds light heavyweight)
Bongani Dlamini VS Nicholas Modibeng (6 rounds lightweight)
Joey Stiglingh VS Amon Nhlapo (4 rounds junior lightweight)
Ashley Dlamini VS Johannes Nthontho (4 rounds junior featherweight)

Yes it would have been perfect to add Johnny to the bill but unfortunately he is already fighting on Saturday night at Carousel against Wiseman Dlomo I believe. Not missing that one.

I’m with you on this Britt and Martin. The fans always seem to end up mentioning the young muller in the comments. Just goes to show how popular he is. Thanks for the info Martin, I will definately not miss this tournament at Carousel.

Carousel here we come. Johnny fought the baby champ in his last bout and could have knocked him out easily but didn’t as “rumour” had it that he couldn’t go the full six rounds. Flo can take Mongezi easily. We will be there to support Johnny 100% on Saturday.

Yes I saw the fight between Muller and Mongezi. Muller could’ve knocked him cold from round one but had a point to prove. I will joint you guys at Carousel on Saturday.

I can’t help but notice that Johnny Muller is the most talked about non GGP fighter on this website. I’ll be at Carnival City to see him and Kyle Bothma on that bill.

I’ve never commented on this site but love to read the fans’ comments. I’ve seen Johnny Muller box and I love this young lion. I’ve met and spoken to him after a few fights, what a really nice young guy, old school, and knows what respect is.
