Bedeman Is A Lightweight Terrier!

WBA All Africa and IBO Africa lightweight champion Jason “Badman” Bedeman (13-0-2, with 10 knockouts) is presently riding the crest of a wave, after a series of inspiring wins (three this year in 2010) and the promise of a “reach for the jugular” fight with former IBO lightweight champion South Korean’s Ji-Hoon Kim sometime soon. Just how soon that will be, however, no-one is saying, especially Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman who may yet sneak the bout of the hat for November.

On Saturday night, Bedeman won a hard-fought 10-round battle with Ghana’s Sam Amoako, a tough-and-experienced antagonist who always comes to fight.
“He’s good alright” says a visibly spent Amoaka, “but he’ll have to learn how to box”.

That Bedeman is now one of the most trusty pound-for-pound battlers in Gauteng, is a fact and he owes much of his stoic fortitude to the fact that he comes to battle in a resilient mood, unconsciously of fear and totally primed for battle. “At 20-years-old Jason is a fighter who doesn’t come along often enough and while it may appear that he’s much more a brawler than a boxer, one should watch how he sets his legs when he hits the body” said trainer Manny Fernandes. Clearly Fernandes is of the opinion that his unbeaten lightweight has a fight formula that defies most “head-on” fighters, which the 23-year-old Kim certainly is. “My guy can fight or box and he’ll surprise people with his power” said Fernandez.

One of South Africa’s leading fight trainers, Fernandes mentioned “Since joining up with GGP in 2009, Jason has gone from strength to strength and been in formidable form, beating the likes of Joseph Modise, Grant Fourie, Bilal Mohammed, Bongani Dlamini and now the clever boxing Amoako” said Fernandes, who clearly welcomes the proposed bout with Kim as a lightweight war! “They’re both incredibly game, hit hard and ignore the fanciful stuff that certain fighters find important. To me actually, the Badman is a facsimile of Mike Holt, who parked his manners outside the arena before wielding a bone-breaking series of punches” said Fernandes. “Not that the Mayfair-based trainer has no fear or trembling in a bout of this type. “Hey, Kim is dangerous and we’ll need to plan our strategy well in advance” concluded Fernandes.

Strangely enough, there are several elderly custodians who also view the lighter Bedeman as a replica of Holt, especially once his hurt. “You saw what happened when he went down to Mohammed twice in one round, only to regain his feet and stop the rugged Ghanaian out in the next heat” said an awe-inspired Jeff Ellis, who has been working with fighters since the early-Seventies. Yet Ellis does not believe Bedeman can change his style and figures that a head-to-head bout is on the cards if and when Bedeman meets Kim.

I always enjoy watching Jason fight. His opponent on Saturday was no walk over, in fact, Amoaka can throw some vicious punches. Luckily, not many of them landed properly.

Sure it was a great experience fight for Jason, and the boy worked hard from the opening bell. Jason, all the best for your future !!!
But have to agree with Britt, that right hand seems a bit weak…

Hand picking what a joke. Fourie is promoted by GGP and who he is told to fight, he fights. His never duck or dived any guy. By hand picking do you mean when opponents pull out a week and 2weeks before a fight? not once but at least 5 times (remember Australia two guys pulled out of fight and then the promoter got caught for drugs). Fourie fights against Modies was not allowed by bsa not Once but 3 times were opponents had to be change a week before a fight. (But Joey could fight Modies??) Fourie is fighting soon and seeing him in gym, I’m feeling sorry for next guy. And yes he is a great guy. Ask Mr T about this all he’ll tell you.

I think Gideon should take the fight with Hekkie. Why wait till next year is he scared or just weary of what can happen.

If Jason performed like he did on saturday I think the fight with Kim will do him good I just think he should watch Kim’s last three fights and study it very carefully and work on throwing more punches because Kim is come foward figter with a heart of a lion.Manny did very well with Jason and you can see Jason proved some critics very wrong this kid has a great future ahead of himself.
I see that Warren Joubert also joined Manny Fernandez good luck to him maybe we can see him aswell on the november bill.

You want to talk facts .You talk very highly about ruben,if you look at ruben’s record he fought a hell of a lot of bums.In his 5th fight he lost against a guy with 1 loss ,1 draw what did he learn. His 16 th fight he fought a guy with 1 win,how impressive .He fought guys with 43, 29 losses on there record. So what make ruben, bums he fought so much better than the guys Flo is fighting now.Flo is better on this stage of his boxing career than ruben.Flo has’t lost against a total bum as far.I still would like to know what makes ruben so good. When the management team of Flo throws him in the deep sea,he will be ready to handle the sharks.
