Berman’s “Elimination Lightweight Drive”!

Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman is planning a ‘lightweight elimination drive’ of sorts over the forthcoming months! In confirming his plans, the CEO of Golden Gloves Promotions said; “We’ve got a wealth of lightweight talent in the country at present and much in the way that promoters abroad pair some of their best fighters in a particular weight division against each other, we plan to have four of the most exciting lightweights in Gauteng fight an elimination series of bouts”.

The fighters that Berman has in mind are current WBA Pan African lightweight king Jason “Badman” Bedeman, Zolani Marali, Kgotla Baeti and Bongani Dlamini.

“Look, while both Bedeman and Dlamini will be active at Emperors Palace on March 29 and March 30 respectively, we envisage them winning and if that’s indeed the case, they will be incorporated into our elimination plan”.

Berman’s idea is for the wonderfully talented Dlamini to fight Bedeman sometime soon and then have the winner of that bout face the winner of the April 27 lightweight shootout between Zolani Marali and Kgotla Baeti.

“Whoever happens to lose those two bouts will then be matched against each other in the final contest” said Berman.

Experts agree that Bedeman starts as a logical favourite on Monday night (March 29) at Emperors Palace in his 8-round contest with the hard fighting Luyanda Jacko and similarly Bongani Dlamini is expected to beat Nicholas Modibeng on the Tuesday bill that is being promoted by African Ring in conjunction with golden Gloves Promotions.

Providing there are no upsets in this respect, Dlamini will then fight Bedeman and the winner will have booked his spot against the victor in the April shootout between former four-time world champion Marali and the savage hitting Baeti.

Hi Mr “T” what are these eliminator fights for?
A title or just to see who is the best up and coming lightwieght in the country?
I think this is a great idea, but you have one guy that has two titles and three that have non?
It just means he has to work just a little harder to prove a piont.
That he is the best young lightweight in this country.

Hey Taptap look at the records, Dlamini is ok but Jason has thunder in his hands with more stoppages on his record that says it all(Ok King.
I do agree with Emilio that Jason has two titles and he has to now fight guys that still have to prove themself.
It just looks like Jason giving the others guys a chance.
Let Jason fight Marali for a title that is what people would like to see.

People love fighters and not good looking boxers.
Ask any fight fan(OK’s)is what they come to watch.
Jason is going to be World Champ and a house hold name.

Well you say overrated and yet mmm I go to fights where The Badman is not fighting and find myself bored as hell… The Badman garuntees a knock out nearly every time and when Im sitting in the audience watching a fight Im just waiting in anticipation to see someone go down. The badman may not provide all the technical aspects of boxing to the audience when he fights but boy can he FIGHT and give the audience something to jump out of their seats for and lose their voices for screaming so hard.THE BADMAN IS EXCITING AND GOOD AT WHAT HE DOES IN THE RING.

‘Proving himself still’ as you put it is part of Bedeman’s professional obligation, since once a boxer wins a title he naturally has to defend it and Dlamini is considered to be a good test for the Badman at this point in time.

Thank you Mr”T” for your reply.
Jason last fought on 27th of Feb and now you are saying, he will be fighting on 19th of June.
Jason has alot of supporters in the South and east rand, who are waiting to see him in action.
That is along time off, should Jason not be having a fight in between that fight date?

Bedeman was supposed to fight on March 29 against Luyanda Jacko but pulled out of the fight. Since GGP have an ever expanding arraye of boxers we try to accomodate them as often as possible, and while Bedeman may well fight before then, his next definite date is June 19

    Hi guys
You say Jason is overrated, but he has a 11 Fights and 9 KO’s.
He hardly leave the juges score the fight.(He’s left hook is King)
He may not be the most polite person and going out of he’s way looking for supporters, but he is as “REAL” as you get!
He is 20 and has two titles that is what counts.
I am glad to be a fan of the Badman.

Like I said before Jason is over rated, shint splints is no excuse to pull out of a fight.Isn’t it because he is scared of being knocked out this time or did he not do enough road work, because of the shint splint excuse.FITNESS FITNESS FITNESS.

I would let Grant Fourie and Jason have a rematch, the reason Grant lost that fight was because he was not fit that cost Grant the fight.I am not a fan of any of these guys but I can asure you grant has more style, handspeed, talent than Jason that is my 2c.

Grants fitness was not the reason he lost that fight with Bederman. The Badman made a wonderful job of turning that fight into a brawl and he got Fourie to engage him when the smarter move was to stay on the outside and pick the Badman off. All Grant had to do was listen to what Colin Nathan was telling him to do…
