The “full house” signs may have gone up on the “Night of the Big Little Men” tournament at Emperors Palace on Thursday evening, but SuperSport viewers will enjoy prime viewing regardless.
The World of Champions will broadcast the tournament live from 7.30pm (SS2 and CSN), with the bill headlined by the IBO light-flyweight championship between titleholder Hekkie Budler and challenger Gideon Buthelezi.
Tournament proceeds will benefit former champion Baby Jake Matlala, who has pledged to attend, notwithstanding ill health. Not only will the little hero be paraded in the ring, he will also present the title bout to the winner of the main fight.
Budler and Buthelezi are both in supreme shape, with boxing aficianados predicting a mini-SA classic with local bragging rights on offer. Budler is the form man, but Buthelezi is much improved and believes he has the gameplan to topple the champion.
Interest in the undercard is focused primarily on heavyweight prospect Flo Simba, who packs a giant wallop in his 94kg frame. He’s up against wily journeyman Sting Gonorenda, who has promised to derail the fighter they call “Demolition Man”.
With a WBO Youth title fight in the offing, Simba cannot afford to slip up.
In another heavyweight bout, popular Stephen Castle will have his work cut out against Elvis Moyo, arguably the most durable man in the division and the only fighter to last the distance against the unbeaten Simba.
There are a further two lightweight fights and a featherweight bout to enjoy. Look out for Alex Jonker and Warren Joubert, two of the most entertaining boxers in the business.

Hi Flo Simba Fan
How can “Sting” fight for a youth title if the guy is 30 pluse years old.
A youth title is for guys younger than 22 year old?Flo is the right age.
Please tell me why they are matched to fight each other.
It just sounds like there is somthing up, just to give Flo a title just because.
What do you think?

So Tyson Fury is fighting “The white Buffal” why not let him and young Flo battle it out for that WBO youth strap.

Once again how can the “White Buffalo” fight for the youth strap the man is once again over 30?
Let Flo fight some one any where in Africa, that is just as good as him.
Not just giving away a Belt, be real now!!!
Flo is good so give him some one just as good.

@ Britt – it would be too soon for Flo. No-one wants to see him take a loss at age 21, before he’s even filled out into his physical frame.

Britt i agree with you but GGP will never take a fight with Fury because then Flo will be exposed. He is so over-rated.

So this morning I woke up with egg all on my face, last night my night ended terrible.
The night began very well for me, first of all Prince Ndlovo looks hot really, okay he fought a bum, but he really looks in a great shape, good combination.
Then Zan Jonker “Moenie te hard probeer nie” stay by the basic’s, and for what its worth that fight was stopped premature really the ref could let them fight for at least another round.
Warren Joubert? What in the world? Why didn’t they put Joe in the fight against Takalane Dangala, really please, Warren needs to get he’s timing rite.
Elvis “The Big Hitting Underdog” Moyo, this boy for me so underrated, please GGP put him more often on your shows, mark my words he’ll win a South-African title soon.
Stephen Castle you fought with a good heart and last night, I got other respect for you, much love “Peoples Champ”
Flo “The Demolition Man” Simba , I mentioned on the social networking site Facebook last night the biggest puncher in SA boxing at present Flo Simba, dam you can punch, like the way you fought sting last night, great Upper-cut just need to learn to trough it when that guy rushes in, more than that God bless your journey.
Then I come to my part of the post which brings a tear to my heart, really Hekkie you looked outstanding last night, your work rate is tremendous, your close-range punches are so immaculate, but all you need to do is move that head, my friend move, like Colin said get the rhythm going move-move-move, you were winning that fight last night until the late 10th round my dear friend, don’t, drop your head, come back with a Bang!!!!!!!!!
Anyway that’s it from me, Can’t wait for the next tournament, Will the Oosthuizen brother‘s make us proud, and will Flo win that WBO strap?

FAN OF THE GUN, I AGREE GIDEON DID LOOK FIT AND BETTER AFTER HIS LAST BOUT

I saw Gideon fight for the first time, in his previous fight at Emperors, and was really impressed with his speed and his work rate …..
last night, that counted in his favour, and his punches was crisp and clear !
And as a “newish” boxing fan, I’ve come to the realisation (in the last few tournaments), that, one can NEVER underestimate an opponent, for example:
Moyo vs Flo
Moyo vs Muller
Chilemba vs Oosthuizen
Hekkie vs Gideon
etc
Hekkie, STILL one of my favourites!!!
Also well done to Moyo on his first win !!!! I’ve actually come to like the guy alot !
