The “PRELUDE” boxing bonanza at Emperors Palace on February 27 will start much earlier than usual in lieu of the amount of championship fights on the bill. Indeed, whereas tournaments of this nature invariably begin at 8 Pm, the “PRELUDE” extravaganza will get under way one hour earlier. (7 PM)
In confirming this, tournament coordinator Shona MacTaggart said; “We’re going for an early start because there are no less than four title contests on the night, and in boxing one never knows which bouts will go the scheduled distance”.
What with Hekkie “The Hex-ecutioner” Budler challenging Juanito Rubillar of the Philippines for the vacant IBO world junior flyweight title; Tommy “The Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen squaring up to Zambia’s John Chibuta for the vacant WBA Intercontinental super middleweight crown, Jason “Badman” Bedeman taking on Bilal Mohammed for the vacant WBA intercontinental lightweight belt and Tshifhiwa “Atomic Spider” Munyai locking horns with Carlo Magali in defence of the South African’s WBA Intercontinental bantamweight championship, it’s clearly a judicious move to reschedule the tournament for a 7 PM start.
“Then too we have several preliminary bouts that could conceivably go the distance” concluded MacTaggart. The most talked about 4-rounder on the fight card is of course the local heavyweight encounter between Flo “The Demolition Man” Simba and Stephen “The Warrior” Castle.
Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman also confirmed that booking for the tournament was due to open at Computicket, with prices for the event highly affordable and ranging from R75-unreserved, to R125 and R150 reserved. “It would be shameful to increase the ticket prices for this tournament” said Berman, “given the plethora of talented fighters who’ll be displaying their skills”.
Meanwhile in an unprecedented move, a local bookmaker called the writer late last night signaling his interest in opening betting “only” on the heavyweight bout between Simba and Castle. “It’s an intriguing proposition” said the odds-giver in question. “Simba may be the unbeaten sensation but Castle is certainly the ‘people’s favourite’ and at present it seems like half the fight fans in Gauteng are tipping the more seasoned Castle to win.”

It was confirmed late this morning that the only WBA Intercontinental title bout on the PRELUDE bill is in fact the bout featuring Munyai. Bedeman (who owns the IBO Africa lightweight title) will in fact be contesting the vacant WBA Pan African lightweight crown, while Oosthuizen, rather than attempting to win a fourth championship crown, will be defending his WBA Pan African super middleweight belt

Okay that’s all cool I know he will win this one and the next, never doubt in him one moment. Without any second thoughts he’s the best Super middleweight in our country arguably, some people that aren’t aware of he’s left hand, will say William Gare is the best. But I say put the fight on.

In my humble opinion, Tommy is indeed the best super middleweight in the country and though I’ve always respected Gare’s talent, he does not feature in our forthcoming plans, especially where the Tommy Gun is concerned. thanks for your considered opinion Britt.

Ow no Mr. Terry thank you.
Don’t get me wrong all the respect to William Gare indeed, it’s just i have notice that all the rating, IBO, Boxrec world rating that William is higher that’s why I thought you know put the fight UP.
But then again there are bigger names out there Tommy can take in the further that will really make a name for him in the world of boxing.
