IBO world junior flyweight champion Hekkie “The Hexecutioner” Budler (17-0) may have had his toughest assignment since turning professional, when he defeated Mexico’s Evaristo Primero (14-14-1) on a “split” decision in Laredo, Texas this past weekend but the 22-year-old South African passed a crucial test in the process. So says US fight historian George Blake, who had earlier warned Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman that his gallant young champion was destined to walk a “tightrope” when he faced Primero. “Yes, I know Budler took far too much punishment in the course of fashioning a 10-round, non-title points decision” said Blake, who is based in Wisconsin, “but let’s face facts; Primero has already fought a number of formidable opponents like Mauricio Pastrana, Rafael Marquez, Johnny Tapia and Hussein Hussein to mention but a few and is no slouch at standing toe-to-toe and whinging away with both hands”.
Moreover the experienced Blake feels that Budler, whose eleven years younger than the rugged Primero, passed an acid test by weathering the storm of leather in Rounds 2, 3, 7 and 10. “Primero really belted the kid and yet Hekkie took those shots without going down, though low blows did send him to the canvas in the second and ninth rounds. However, for me, the manner in which Budler ploughed steadily forward, unmindful of the jarring right hands and uppercuts that shook him, was a good sign and I’m convinced that he (Budler) can mature into an excellent fighter. He certainly has the courage and workrate to do so and he may someday look back on the fight and realize it was essentially a huge learning curve. One word of warning however: Hekkie needs to utilize more lateral movement because at present his attack is far too predictable and when he faces a redoubtable banger he could be in trouble”.

I personally think Hex is the best but he needs to be fine tuned now. Collin are you good enough for him or does he need the guidense of somebody like Harold or Manny. GGP this is an Golden Investment for you if you can ensure he is looked after. Budler you were there but you missed something. Was it
the long flight there or was it just the heat.
You still make us proud.

I have to agree Collin has done very well sofar but Hekkie needs to be polished now, this boy has the heart of a lion and will go places he need to step up his game if you look at the guy he fought, this fight shouldve been a walk in the park.We cannot blame it on jet lag or off day.In boxing there is no such a thing as an off day,you give it your all or nothing at all.Collin if youre reading this my boet you are a good trainer but I recon maybe a big maybe get some other help in the gym.Just to work on ring stamina, hand speed, more combinations, work rate….you have a world beater on your hands…..make it happen my brother.Hekkie you are a legend and you have the world at your feet.

Terry Hector is my brother I don’t say he hasn’t got all of the above. He just need to pick it up a notch,If he preforms like he did on 27/8/2010 there are gonna be some big challengers out there that wanna challenge him for his crown, this kid is phenomanal and has what it takes.I just looked at the fighter who beat Primero in his last fight that oke was no push over.Hekkie just need to learn a bit more.
I’m not running him down or Collin for that matter.Collin has done very well with him sofar and I believe he is a good trainer,I always say just listen to critics for that matter.Hekkie will come back with a bang after his win in Texas and I believe in him like the bible.

Does Hekkie have a brother? Strange that you never see him at any boxing matches. Where is his support when it really matters.
I have a brother who is boxing with Hex and I am always with him. I do not know who you are boet but let me tell you. A brother is someone who is there for you all the time not just to sit next to the line and comment on what you think is ok.

You are a true boxer. All the kids love you!

While i also believe Hekkie is a great little fighter with a heart of a lion, i do believe his defence skills have let him down. at such a young age he is taking way too much punishement to the head. Colin is a great trainer but very one dimensional and hekkie needs the likes of the great harold volbrecht or manny fernandez to take him under their wing.

LETS FACE IT HE DOES SHINE. THIS KID HAS BEEN BOXING SO WELL SINSE THE DAY HE STEPED INTO THE RING AS AN AMATURE.
I REMEMBER ONE YEAR HE WON THE S A TITLE AND HE GAVE HIS MEDAL TO PEOPLE WHO HAD LOST THEIR SON. THESE PEOPLE AND THE ENTIRE HALL OF SPECTATOR WERE IN TEARS. THIS IS A DIFFERENT BREAD. KEEP HIM SAFE GGP.
WE AS BOXING LOVERS WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM ON TOP.

Should Budler not choose his own trainer.
And to tell you the truth I think Colin is the
future in the local trainers.
So to all the people out there who are moaning lets support him ask these old toppies “respectfully” to assist this young man. If or where he falls short.
