Budler & Chilembe Have Mountains To Climb – Mitchell!

Anyone who was present at Tuesday afternoon’s pre-fight medical and press conference for this weekend’s BLOCKBUSTER event at Emperors Palace would have noticed that Australia’s Michael Bolling and Juanito Rubillar of the Philippines were exceptionally confident of taking home IBO world title straps when they jet out of the country on Sunday! Mind you pundits agree that the two overseas fighters face daunting tasks when they enter the ring to meet Isaac “The Golden Boy” Chilemba and Hekkie “The Hex-ecutioner” Budler respectively, in bouts the majority of experts believe will be  splintering encounters.

The 21-year-old Budler will be making the first defence of his IBO world junior flyweight title in a keenly awaited rematch with the far more experienced Rubillar while Bolling and Chilemba will be slugging it out for the vacant IBO world super middleweight crown.

“I’ve had a good look at Chilemba” said the genial Bolling, whose reputation has been forged with awesome knockout results that translate into 10 stoppages in 12 fights, all of which he’s won. “Chilemba is essentially a mobile boxer who slaps more than he actually punches and while I can’t take anything away from the man he’ll find it difficult scoring with those type of blows on Saturday night. Do I think I’ll win? Sure I do and whether the contest goes one round or twelve, Australia will have another world champion late on Saturday evening”.

One press member noted that the Bolling camp was totally relaxed at the pre-fight medical and felt that despite a slight height disadvantage, the man from Down Under appeared unfazed by Chilemba’s lengthy dialogue which mainly revolved around how much hard work his attractive manager Jody Solomon has put into their preparations for the fight. “Man, he really lays it on with a trowel”, quipped the sportswriter in question. Frankly I suspect that Isaac may have a tiger on his hands and don’t be surprised if Bolling targets his mid-section from the opening round”.

Yet if Chilemba’s pre-match speech was uncharacteristically long the utterances of the undefeated Hekkie Budler primarily focused on his Spartan-like training regime. “I believe that I beat Rubillar in our previous championship match and I mean to prove it far more conclusively the second time around” said the Python-loving IBO world junior flyweight titleholder. “I’ve been training harder than I’ve ever done before and come Saturday night, he (Rubillar) will be faced with twelve rounds of non-stop punching”.

However Gabriel Elorde, who manages the career of the 33-year-old Rubillar, is unmoved by the South African’s ultra-confident approach and for the benefit of the media, interpreted his warrior’s response into perfect English. “Juanito admits that he started far too slow in the first fight and now means to stamp his authority from the opening bell. He says to tell you that he will win the IBO world title in style”.

Former two-time world champion Brian Mitchell will doing television commentary on the BLOCKBUSTER bill and made no secret of the fact that he thinks both Budler and Chilemba have “mountains to climb” this coming weekend. “Judging by what I saw at the press-conference, I’d say that Hekkie has to fight out of his skin to successfully defend his title and while Chilemba’s degree of confidence is highly motivational, he has one hell of a fight on his hands”.

Meanwhile Saturday night’s contestants for the IBO Africa lightweight title; that sees the champion Jason “Badman” Bedeman (11-0-2, with 8 knockouts) defend his title against Bongani “Sweetie Pie” Dlamini (6-1, with 5 knockouts) have allegedly emerged as ‘bitter’ enemies ahead of their scheduled 12-round championship bout. Dlamini in fact held up two fingers when this writer asked him for a prediction, an ominous supposition that has been vocally supported by his trainer Elias Tshabalala.

For his part, the fair-haired Bedeman simply stared at his challenger before issuing the following comment. “I’m the champion today and I’ll still be the champion after Saturday’s fight”.

Heavyweights Flo “The Demolition Man” Simba and Elvis Moyo are slated to meet over six rounds on the star-studded bill, which also sees Gideon Buthelezi fight Ronelle Ferraras for the vacant IBO world mini flyweight title, and the pair have wasted no time entertaining fight addicts with prophesies of triumph.

“I went to his gymnasium to challenge him” said a smiling Moyo, “and I’d really like to thank Simba for giving me the opportunity of bursting his bubble. Flo your management took a wrong turn by accepting this fight”

Unbeaten in four professional outings, with as many knockouts, Simba was a lot less volatile than his unheralded adversary and was all smiles when he said he “welcomed the challenge that Moyo represented”.

Also surprised to see the old article.
I think that the BLOCKBUSTER event had quite a few surprises for everyone. Hekkie’s match was superb, punching non-stop for all those rounds. Were ALL those low-blows REALLY that low ? Or is the soccor madness rubbing off on us?

Everyone thought that Flo would have an easy fight, but Moyo caused a few nervous moments. He might not be able to box well, but he’s punches are like mule-kicks !!! Flo really needs to work on his follow up. He landed some nice combinations, but he just does not follow up.

Glad that Isaac came out as the winner, although the match wasn’t very entertaining. What will happen now? Will Isaac and Tommy be meeting each other in the near future ?

Fight of the night, hands down, Bedeman and Dhlamini …. Cracker of a fight, had everyone on their feet !!! Just out of curiousity …. I watched the match again, and found it strange that the commentators did not mention on tv that the towel was actually thrown in, when the referee stopped the fight.

For my first ever boxing tournament, this was cool !!! will definitely be at the next one.

You definately have not seen the best of the hex yet! He will learn more from this fight and the next time you see him he will be better! I do think that he should have a couple easier fights next for the sake of his career, wars like that are not good in the longrun.

Bederman v Dlamini was an awesome slugfest however I do think that aside from Bedermans bravado, he needs serious worrk on his defence and strategy. A calmer head would have avoided dlaminis assaults.

Flo better take a jab seriously otherwise he will see the canvas! oh and he was definately knocked down! He ate a right hand! Other than that Elvis was game and came to fight and you cant knock his attitude at all – it was a good match for Flo at this time of his career.

Could agree more with both “Classy & FanofGun” the evening was electrifying. Really never seen a Hekkie like that the way he fought, was like a true world champion. Well done Colin and Hekkie work harder the WBA, WBC, IBF is waiting.
Then I’m a bit disappointed in Flo he must walk over “No bodies” like Elvis.
What a rumble well done Jason, I pull back all the predictions I made against you.
Isaac you deserve your title, hope you enjoy it “for now!!” I agree with Brian’s commentating on this one; an anti-climax fight. But hope you have a real good look at that title, because I can assure you Thomas wants it. :-)

Great fights.Hekkie, well done .You shown more hart & guts in the fight, and that alone will take you to bigger things.Bedeman v Dlamini:Did Dlamini think that Jason will not hit back.Since when dose a boxer clime in to the ring with a fighter and try to fight him.He must maybe look at his trainer for giving him the wrong advice.Flo,took a couple of good shots, but don’t let it happen to much, shots like that can put you in BIG trouble. You still got a lot to learn, listen to your conner.Isaac v Bolling. What a disappointment. At the night Tommy would have boxed both of them and stopped them inside the distance. The fight were so boring I think Kepler Wesels thought it were a 5 day cricket match, nothing were happening.Isaac look after the title for TOMMY ,He will come and fetch it from you.Isaac,Pulled to much weight,he is not a super middle ,He is a light-heavy

Tommy will out box and out fight both Isaac and Bolling. Jason, well done, this was a surprise to me. Ag no man Flo, you were knocked down not once but twice. Were it not for the ropes, the count would have started. Still a pity we couldn’t see Muller in action, saw him cheering in the crowd.

2 fights ago Badman got dropped with a Jab. His last fight he knocked the stuffing out of Dlamini, but he ate plenty shots too. He is definately one of the good younguns out there but he has a lot to do. His face was once again an easy target to find.

Hit without getting hit…that is the point.

I always maintained through the posts that I would toss a coin before this fight as I couldnt pick a winner. Tails meant I was rooting for the Badman. It was certainly a good win for him!

It would be a good fight Mike but Flo is not at my boy Johnny’s level yet. Uppercut is right, one should not ruin either one’s career by putting them together in a ring at this stage and I seriously doubt Mr Volbrecht or Mitchell will ever go that route. They can both become champions.

I have the world of respect for Flo, he can become a great boxer. Johnny Muller just has that edge, he is fast becoming is excellent boxer under Harold’s guidance and we all know he is a great fighter, mix the two and you have a lethal combination.

Having said that, Flo I am a fan and will be cheering for you in all your fights. Johnny can box and fight and yes this should be a fantastic fight but very stupid to do it to the two great prospects we have.

I am going to give my honest opinion and I apologise in advance to all the toes I will be stepping on. I think in Flo, Brian Mitchell found a great prospect whom he can mould into a great champion and who can become a well known name in the international arena. In Johnny, Harold knows he can become one of the greatest Heavy or Light Heavyweights in the years to come and maybe the best in that weight they’ve had for a long time, with the right guidance and management, but somehow I get the feeling Flo is better “marketed” than Johnny. I have been watching both Flo and Johnny throughout their fights and I am amazed at how Flo have succeeded in his short amateur and professional career, well done. Johnny was a star from the beginning and a big draw card with his fighter/brawler style, but boy this young teenager has a deadly right hand. Now, under Harold’s guidance and training, I have seen Johnny become a boxer and I know that Johnny will prove to be great given the chance.

I was also disappointed not to see Muller on the bill but will be waiting for the next one to see him in action. I beg to differ Mike, it will certainly be an action packed fight to see Muller and Flo but Muller will knock Flo out cold. It would also be a very bad management decision to put these two together so early in their careers.

Flo can do what he like but unless his jab becomes a weapon like the jab that Lennox Lewis used, he wont go far. Its too ponderous and doesnt carry any stopping power. He also gives me the impression that he can move in throwing 4 punches but then gets stuck on the island after the tide rolls in, and looks to be without any help with his chin doing an oscar award impression (excuse the artful description).

He needs work on those 2 aspects desperately but luckily they are aspects that can be easily rectified.

Good descriptions classy, very poetic indeed. I feel Flo needs to learn that Jab and move technique, moral less the same style as Thomas is using, very effective, I can assure you he needs to learn the art of good old fashion boxing. The way Elvis as a minor boxer cut Flo’s corners into that big over hand right, was a bit disappointing.
