Ghana’s Bilal “Take Punch” Mohammed is one tough cookie and on February 27 at Emperors Palace, the former West African lightweight champion will be striving to add the vacant WBA Pan African lightweight title to his kudos when he faces rugged South African Jason “Badman” Bedeman. The current Ghanaian lightweight titleholder, Mohammed has been fighting professionally since 1999, and has a resume of 14-3 (1 no contest) with 11 knockouts. “He’s reportedly a terricic hitter and has an incredibly trustworthy chin” said Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman. One of four championship fights on the Emperors Palace “PRELUDE” bill, the Bedeman vs Mohammed contest could be the most savage lightweight clash seen in this country in years and experts are sharply divided as to the likely result. “It’s actually much too soon for the Badman” said former Boxing Express writer Laurie “Slugger” Houston, “But I nevertheless think that Jason’s inbred tenacity and remarkable will-to-win will pull him through what promises to be a knock-em-down, drag-em-out contest”.
While all of Mohammad’s bouts have taken place in his native Ghana, this fiercely aggressive fighter is purportedly champing-at-the-bit to vist South Africa. “Bilal is very eager to visit your land and especially deflate the hopes of the 20-year-old Bedeman” said a spokesman for the Mohammed camp.
That said, a Ghanaian conquest of the unbeaten Bedeman will not come easily! Indeed, the blonde-haired Badman remains unbeaten in 12 professional fights (10-2, 8 knockouts) and is the present IBO Africa lightweight champion.
Trained by former SA “Trainer of the Year” Manny Fernandes, the lion-hearted Bedeman is essentially a ‘come forward’ fighter and relies more on constant aggression and pressure, plus a wicked assortment of punches, to earn him victory than he does technical expertize. “Mind you, while Jason is a typical warrior who relishes toe-to-toe exchanges, he has far better ring skills than he’s often given credit for” assures mentor Fernandes.
That the Badman has an arduous task on his hands at Emperors Palace on February 27, seems most likely and a perusal of Mohammed’s record confirms this. The durable Ghanaian has won 10 of his last 13 bouts (with one no contest) and owns an impressive KO ratio of 61.11 %. “Anyone who registers more than 50% in terms of knockout proficiency qualifies as a very dangerous fighter and Mohammed’s scoresheet is particularly noteworthy” said local man-about-boxing Jeff Ellis.
Moreover, the man who dubs himself “Take Punch” has victories over the likes of Adenko Deka (West African lightweight title), Alex Brew (VacantGhanaian lightweight title)Tijani Mohammed and John Larbi. He had a 4-round ‘No Contest’ with the respected Ben Ankrah in 2005, and then dropped a 12-round split decision to Ankrah eight months later. In July 2008, Mohammed was halted on an 8th round TKO by Godfriend Sowah when he challenged for the British Commonwealth lightweight crown, but bounced back to stop John Larbi in his only bout during 2009.
“It’s true that Mohammed has struggled to obtain fights, but that’s because he’s such a violent puncher” said Promoter Berman.
Take note Jason!

Can Jason take the punch??? Obviously!! That’s why he won the the fight against Fourie. Before the fight Fourie’s trainer couldn’t stop saing that Fourie is a classy fighter & Jason is a street fighter and his street tactics would get him no where. Jason has got amazing skills, he is a BOXER not a STREET FIGHTER. Jason didn’t only win the fight but after Fourie’s hopeless attempts to weaken Jason by head butting him, Fourie’s trainer had to throw the towel in as he was no match for Jason. Note to all: Think before you speak:)

I aint seen no head butts in that fight…. I watched again last night….Grant by far was so much more classier and was beating Jason
in the beginning rounds for sure… Jason is a very hard hitter and credit to you BADMAN you got the FIREBALL with some punches there, but
I still believe Grant will come out TOPS…. Not only that, Grant is a very respectful youngster and boxer he didn’t say one bad thing
about Jason like Clinton says it was his trainer at the time Colin Nathan with
the big comments, so give the Fireball some credit I think the fight should be fight of the year… Good luck for the 27th Feb BADMAN
