Demolition Man Faces Busy Schedule!

Local heavyweight sensation Flo “The Demolition Man” Simba (3-0, with 3 knockouts) faces a busy fight schedule, with three outings in as many months.

His next contest is on the African Ring tournament roster on Monday night  (March 29) at Emperors Palace when he takes on former “Baby Champs” titleholder Mongezi Nzamela over a slated six rounds. After that the 20-year-old University student will feature on Golden Gloves Promotional bills on April 27 and June 19 at Emperors Palace, en route to a bout in America sometime during August/September.

“We have to keep Flo busy” said GGP Promoter Rodney Berman, who firmly believes that his blossoming young tiger is Africa’s newest heavyweight find.

“He’s being trained by former SA welterweight champion Harold Volbrecht and managed by two-time Hall of Famer Brian Mitchell, and that in itself gives him an excellent platform in terms of guidance” said Berman.

A merciless puncher with instinctive predatory instincts and an undeniable flair, Simba took the boxing scene by storm last year, and despite a limited amateur career of only six fights, has easily adapted to the professional ranks, where he’s won all three of his contests on knockouts.

“Flo is a good listener and he never forgets what I teach him” said trainer Volbrecht, who’s clearly impressed with his 6’ 3” heavyweight prospect. “In all my years in professional boxing I’ve never seen a guy better at skipping and that bodes well in terms of his natural balance and rhythm” said the former undefeated national welterweight titleholder.

Brian Mitchell feels much the same and cited Simba’s power, speed and charisma as vital assets in the composition of a drawcard. “This guy oozes charm and being a University student, he’s obviously highly intelligent. I expect him to become the biggest box-office attraction that this country has had in many years and with GGP behind us the sky is the limit!”

Berman concluded by saying; “Heavyweights have to be kept sharp and Simba relishes the thought of rattling off as many wins as possible during 2010. One year from now we hope to have established him as a heavyweight magnet and naturally he will feature in several bouts abroad”.

Agreed Kgoro, one of the best heavyweights currently. Flo has good skills and his footwork is excellent. I wish Flo well with his bout against the baby champ but still feel he is no match for the young Muller.

We are entering an exiting time with our new heavyweight prospects. Flo is indeed a good prospect and has great potential especially with the guidance of Harold and Brian. However, I have to support Tanya’s observation of Flo not being a match for the 19 year old Muller at the moment.

I have a lot of hope for Flo’s future in boxing and with GGP 100% behind him he can’t go wrong. Flo will easily beat Mongezi. He was a walk over for Johnny Muller and survived being knocked out in the first round only because Muller wanted to prove to some people that he can go all the way.

For a kid his age and his relative lack of experience he should be having fights every 40 days, at least until he has about 12 fights behind him. Its better for boxing right now if he avoids Johnny Muller. Its like when Tommy and Lovett fought eachother. I never saw the sense in that. There was no remarkable rivalry and why give one of them a loss before they have had 10 fights? Where is the sense in that? At least if Flo and Muller clean up all between them, the can meet in a bigger box office attraction sometime down the line!
