Disgard Johnny At Your Peril, Experts Tell GGP

There are so many fight experts in this trade, or would tell you that swashbuckling puncher Johnny “Hurricane” Muller HERO is a cinch to becoming a turnstile favourite. Nevertheless, after the rock-like Muller’s last bout; (an 6 draw with Elvis Moyo on September 18), the 20-year-old Johnny “Hurricane” Muller must close his ears and hurriedly put that performance far behind him.

Brickbats aside, Muller did alright, andI thought he should at least have got the closest of decision over a negative, but eye-catching  Moyo who always manages to look neat while avoiding a stand-up war and scientific boxing exhibition.

Clever-tactics by the African foreigner? Well yes, some may say that it was and there’s no doubt that the long-limbed Moyo does score while scouting the ring and occasionally landing an accurate right hand that looks harder than it is.

Certainly on the Emperors Palace bill on September 19, Muller looked decided ordinary and one hardly spotted any upper-body movement. Yes by now we all realise that like GGP’S other heavyweight star Flo “The Demolition Man” Simba, both behemoths –like any other vaunted puncher’s – don’t enjoy fighters they have to track down.

Though one must compliment the highly unorthodox Moyo, who besides having an seemingly ‘cake-walk’ record of 3-0-1 record has really improved since working with the like of Manny Fernandes and Elias Tshabalala.

And the fight? I though Muller got there by a single point, but looked unsure where to throw his punches and when to box behind the jab. Surely trainer Harold Volbrecht will spend some lengthy time, in this aspect of his preparation. Muller’s legs too need a great deal of attention, though with his resume and reputation as one of our best, Harold knows more than most.

A “Fighter” is young Johnny, but a fighter who can think and pick his punches, rather than an unschooled athlete who initially wins more fights on knockouts but eventually gets shot-circuited himself! Kallie Knoetze, Mike Schutte, Jimmy Richards?
Though our “Hurricane” has reason to feel disappointed, he has no reason to apologise from learning from one of SA’s finest coaches. Yes it’s a more studious and collected Muller out there, but with the change of style he’s had to adapt: less tearaway and instinctive and far more controlled ,Harold’s done a fine job and I’ve no doubt that Muller will continue to improve in leaps and bounds.

For now though, GGP Matchmaker Ruben Rasodi’s excellent counsel is essential!

Britt in the past twenty minutes, I was seated next to some of the finest fight scholars, writers and ex-fighters and without exception they all rate Muller very high indeed.
Muller need to relax (breathing excercises) and take his performances to a new level, which I feel he will.Is he a natural heavyweight though?

Forgive me people! I meant Muller’s (Gremlins) needs to relax. Most experts say that Johnny can be an excellent boxer-puncher, while one suggests he’ll always be a fighter. Dependant on whether you are a fan of this young swatter, you pay you money and take your pick.

Of course we were disappointed after Muller’s fight with Moyo because we expect so much from him. If Muller boxed his normal style and combinations he would have given Moyo a hiding. Just not his night I suppose. I agree, he must put it behind him and train hard for his next bout. I am and will remain a huge fan.

Calling someone the ‘dumbest human in boxing world wide’ is a personal insult which you keep claiming that you don’t do Roberto. Then when somebody slams your opinion you get all hot under the collar and defensive, even threatening. Back to my point. Johnny seems a little confused in the ring. What I mean is, sometimes a fighter is getting so much advise all the time that he tries to be what he feels is expected of him and not what he does naturaly. It’s a unique trainer who is able to find that balance between a persons raw talent and effective boxing skills. You have to take a fighters natural ability and mould it slightly. I have full confidence Johnny will find his groove and his coming fights will be very impressive. Yes my opinion of BSA isn’t great, whatever the backround and thinking behind a Muller Lategan S.A fight, I just know I’d like to see the fight. Perhaps others should get a chance first though for a title in that weight division.
