Fight Camps Begin Their War Of Words!

While a great many Gauteng fight lovers have been swept away by the natural talent displayed by the exciting young lightweight Bongani Dlamini (5-1, 4 knockouts), trainer Manny Fernandes feels that the garrulous Dlamini will receive his come-uppance on June 19 at Emperors Palace when he challenges Fernandes’ unbeaten IBO Africa lightweight champion Jason “Badman” Bedeman (10-0-2, 8 knockouts) for the title. Bedeman, who also owns the WBA Pan African lightweight crown, is purportedly training like a Spartan ahead of this crunch match which forms part of the Golden Gloves Promotions “BLOCKBUSTER” event which will coincide with the FIFA World Cup Football spectacle.

One of five championship bouts on the evening, the Bedeman/Dlamini 12-round bout has intrigued analysts from the outset and is currently being fuelled by the brash confidence of both fighters ahead of what looks like being a fever-pitched battle.

“Dlamini is a crafty and slippery boxer no doubt, but by the fifth round my guy’s (Bedeman) power and strength will have taken its toll and don’t be surprised if Jason knocks him out in the sixth” said Fernandes whose clearly formulated a battle plan based on infighting and workrate. “When it comes to work ethic Jason is in a class of his own and he has a destructive repertoire of punches which will knock holes in Dlamini’s overstated defence. Indeed there’s no way that he (Dlamini) can last twelve rounds with Jason let alone beat him”.

In response to Fernandes’ prediction, however, Dlamini’s trainer Elias Tshabalala came out slinging a few verbal blows of his own, not the least being an ominous prophesy that the Badman wouldn’t make it through the second round. “Manny won’t be in the ring with his boxer so it’s easy for him to shoot off his mouth, but come fight night Bedeman will get plastered with punches from the opening bell and I’m saying that after visiting the canvas in the first heat he’ll be sent into dreamland in the second…its as simple as that!” One of South Africa’s most unsung mentors, Tshabalala believes that Bedeman’s defence has more holes in it than a slice of sweetmilk cheese, a supposition which makes the usually phlegmatic Fernandes’ blood boil. “Elias may think Jason is easy to hit but on June 19 his boxer will have his career prematurely ended” concluded Fernandes.

Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman wouldn’t pick a winner other than to say, “You can actually feel the malevolence between these two fighters and based on what we’ve seen of them in the past this should be a rip-roaring fight with no favours asked and no quarter given. Yes, I’m prepared to say it won’t go the full twelve rounds”.

A beautifully balanced boxer/puncher, Dlamini is totally the opposite of Bedeman who’s known in the fight trade as a ‘warrior’ in other words a pugilist who relishes warring in the trenches and hurling punches with venom-aforethought.

No doubt this will be a WAR!

Jason down in two rounds, his lucky has run out. No more bums for him to face only contenders. And he is a pretender…

Hi Britt, im sure you have already heard the result but what an awesome night of boxing hey, Rudy had a very hard fight he took a lot of punishment, although so did his opponent whom was dropped like in the first few second of the fight by Rudy – but Sting just kept going hey! Grant Fourie had an awesome fight, I think his back for the taking he really looked good and very fit and so classy as we know him to be! and Chaz had a first round KO so that was also impressive – other fights where all good man! what a night!
