There is something about “hometown domination” that few foreign boxing titles can ever quite match! Naturally, when two-superbly conditioned warriors meet for local bragging rights and there’s a championship title throw in as a reward, the Alphabet title gets more than its fair share of international exposure. I think of one of the greatest bout ever seen in this country, was when Phillip Ndou and Cassius Baloyi (2001) fought for an unprecedented ‘best pound-for-pound’ belt and to crown it all there were WBU junior lightweight and WBU featherweight titles in the balance!
There was also Jacob Matlala vs Hawk Makepula, Lehlohonolo Ledwaba vs Cassius Baloyi, Cassius Baloyi vs Mbulelo Botile and Buyani Bungu versus Lehlohonolo Ledwaba. All greats fights and it says something that the November extravaganza at Emperors Palace between IBO world super middleweight champion Isaac “The Golden Boy” Chilemba and Tommy “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen, is following a similar line, and may soon be sold out before fight time.
Oddly enough there is a fight awaiting us that could, be one of the 2011’s most alluring magnets and when duly considered, it looks like being a classic between southpaw and orthodox boxer. I speak of the 22-year-old Hekkie “The Hexecutioner” Budler (17-0, with 5 knockouts) and Gideon Buthelezi (10-2, with 4 knockouts).
Mind you, the multi-talented Buthelezi, who currently holds the IBO world minimum-weight title, will first need to win his September 18 meeting with the Philippines Juluis Alcos on the “CRUCH TIME” bill at Emperors Palace! According to Elias Tshabalala, the big hitting Buthelezi is up to the task and whereas it is a little soon to talk about Buthelezi facing Budler, the wily old mentor is already viewing 2011 speculatively. “If Hekkie wants a fight we will give him one” said Tshabalala.
A former amateur star, Budler was born on May 18, 1988 and following his vacant IBO world junior flyweight title meeting with the very experienced Juanito Rubillar of the Philippines, in which Hekkie won the title in February 27, 2010, the South African was stung by allegations that the decision had been unfair (though all judges marked the fight for Budler) and six months later, Budler beat the hard fighting southpaw in a return match.
Alas, though no brain-picker was needed, the Budler camp was satisfied with their win and went to Laredo, Texas for what would be the South Africa’s third title defence against ringwise veteran Mexican Evaristo Primeiro. In a close fight, the South African retained his title on points, but after a normally fast-paced bout that went down to the wire.
What of Gideon Buthelezi?
A southpaw, Buthelezi, was born on July 16, 1986 and turned pro in 2006. a good puncher with either hand, Buthelezi won the WBO African minimum-weight title in January 2010, en route to capturing IBO world minimum-weight honours on June 19 against the courageous Ronelle Ferreras. “Buthelezi is a natural talent and I’ve seen enough in him to believe that he could win another world title” said Tshabalala, “but just who’s title that is remains to be seen” he smiled.

The Budler/Primeiro bout was a’ten rounder’ and not an official title defence, but tell that to someone who was watching the fight.Methinks it was JUST AS WELL a title defence, because he fought his heart out for
the preserving his championship and believe me you, it was Hekkie’s toughest fight!

I have to give Budler to fight. If you have been in boxing a while. You know that this will not be the first time they fight each other either.
Never underestimate Budler. He is one of the best we have and he can be having a bad day and look bad. But when he has a good day. Be careful. Be very careful.

Left hook you clearly don’t know Budlers track record from amature to the pro ranks. You will be suprised on the night they fight.Budler is one of those guys that can fight and box,he can take what ever you put in front of him.
And if I’m not mistaken Hekkie,Tommy,Jason and few others has revived boxing in South Africa some how.So bring that fight on Hekkie is once again gonna show everybody what it is about.I don’t say it is gonna be a easy fight but Hekkie is a world beater and watch this space Hekkie is gonna be a holder of a few titles in the future. In anycase that is you opinion regarding skill and and and………..we will have to wait and see.

Left hook.
You must be spoking your socks.
Buthelezi has lost against Budler before and so has his brother Kortman.
Why did he win them did they forget their skills at home that day?
I believe he kocked them out.
Even if it was in the amature ranks.
Here it might be even quicker

No man Left hook you make it so easy for us to understand that you are from the Thabalala gym.
Remember what happened to Dlamini. You all said he was going to stop Jason and look what happened.
Budler has what it takes and he will do it.
Mark my words
