It’s Muller’s power versus Venter’s skill

Trainer Harold Volbrecht is predicting a tough night for his light-heavyweight star Johnny Muller, who defends his title against Rudolf Venter at Emperors Palace on Tuesday.

And why wouldn’t he? Volbrecht used to manage Venter and knows his style inside out.
“He’s a good boxer and he moves well,” said Volbrecht.

For all that, Volbrecht believes Venter is in the wrong division and ought to campaign around the middleweight level. “Ultimately Johnny will be too strong for him, he’s got too much power.”

Muller sparred for 12 rounds on Wednesday night and is already one kilogram below the light-heavyweight limit. He’s had top-class sparring, too, mixing with the like of Flo Simba, Zack Mwekassa and Tommy Oosthuizen.

There is an exciting undercard with all eyes likely to be on unbeaten junior-lightweight Joey Stiglingh (against Sam Sethole).

The rest of the bill:
Epiphane Pipi (Ghana) v Zack Mwekassa (heavyweight, 8 rounds); Takalani Dangala v Warren Joubert (lightweight, 8 rounds); Ronnie Chiloane v Morne Bothma (bantamweight, 4 rounds); Godfrey Mabunda v Bongo Lipembo (welterweight, 4 rounds).

Boxing starts at 7.30pm.

Johnny will be too strong and has plenty skills. When he and his corner get his fight strategy correct, he’ll always be so hard to beat

Very disappointing Mr Berman. Although we attend these events we never get to see Johnny’s fights afterwards on tv. Not fair.

Not televised? Now this is why we questioned the “marketing” of some boxers and others who have to be satisfied with crumbs….
