Modise Could Pose Problems For Unbeaten Siglingh!

Joseph Modise (5-5-1) could pose problems for the undefeated Joey Stiglingh when the two lightweights meet over a slated six rounds on the Golden Gloves Promotions “RISING STARS” Box & Dine event at Emperors Palace on July 28.

Unbeaten in 8 fights as a professional, Stiglingh is nevertheless a firm favourite to extend his winning run, but there are several pundits who are tipping a possible upset. Not that Stiglingh’s trainer Colin Nathan expects an easy passage on the night. “Look the guy (Modise) fought a tough six round draw with Jason Bedeman in the past and that tells you he’s a very good fighter” said Nathan. “But we’ve being preparing very hard for this contest and I expect to see Joey get by his first real test in style”.

A solid puncher with either hand, Stiglingh is yet another of GGP’s burgeoning young stars and promoter Rodney Berman has extravagant plans for the 21-year-old fighter over the next two years. “Joey was an excellent amateur and he fires telling punches with both hands. Moreover he has really matured under Colin’s wing and I’m looking forward to an impressive performance from him on July 28 at Emperors Palace” said Berman.

Meanwhile Nathan has announced that following Hekkie “The Hexecutioner” Budler’s non-title bout in Laredo, Texas on August 14, he’ll personally be travelling to Las Vegas to attend a coaching workshop under the experienced eye of trainer Freddie Roach, who’s arguably the best mentor in the world.

“Hopefully I’ll spend about ten days with Freddie and I’m really looking forward to the experience” said Nathan. The Highlands North trainer will also be rubbing shoulders with the braintrust of current world beater Miguel Cotto in order to pick up additional tips and information.
