Action man Johnny Muller makes his long-awaited comeback on Wednesday

Johnny Muller’s comeback marks the highlight of promoter Jeff Ellis’ “Christmas Cracker” tournament at Emperors Palace on Wednesday (7.30pm).

The popular light-heavyweight hasn’t fought since his shock stoppage defeat to Tshepang Mohale in June – a wild three-round affair – and is itching for action. He’s likely to get some against a man who trades by the name “Hard Man”, Donald Kompampa of Zambia, who boasts a 4-2-1 record.

“Everyone loves Johnny, so we had to make a plan,” said Ellis, whose African Ring Promotions will be working in concert with Golden Gloves this week. “We’re all anticipating a big performance. He wants to make a statement.”

The six-bout bill looks compelling and promises loads of action, not to mention KOs – a trademark of Ellis’ popular box ‘n dine events.

Having rebounded nicely since back-to-back defeats in 2010, Warren Joubert (18-2-3) gets another chance to impress against Koos Sibiya, an in and out performer who six years ago challenged for the SA junior-featherweight title. Joubert never lets the fans down and this fight represents a great opportunity to end the year with a flourish.

Unbeaten Adam De Moor, who flattered to deceive in his last outing, also has a chance to end 2011 on a high when he goes in against Emmanuel Ndou. De Moor says he’s fit and raring to go and will be confident of win number four.

Meanwhile, at heavyweight Kevin Lerena looks big and strong as he heads towards his professional debut against Justice Salinga (2-1). He recently helped Michael Grant out with sparring and is said to carry a decent punch. The one-time jockey is now a fully-fledged heavyweight who says he wants to break the door down. Wednesday night he gets his turn.

Welterweights Zane Mundell and Shaun Ness will engage in a welterweight four-rounder that has had everyone talking, while unbeaten lightweight star Zan Jonker (5-0) opens the show against tough Keith Nkosi.

What a great evening! Great stuff, plenty of action! Thank you Jeff and GGP. Sorry Zan I didn’t think you won the fightn, but you gave it your all and that’s all that matters. Nail biting stuff Johnny and you had us worried there for a moment. I was really worried because you didn’t have a fight in six months but you showed much more discipline and focus and came back and deserved the win. Thanks to all the boxers for a night of good boxing.
