Relaxed Chilemba Tells The Gun; “I’ll Keep My Title”!

Fight fans have waited long enough for this contest to become a reality and irrespective of their personal interpretations of the “DECLARATION OF WAR” bout between Malawi-born, IBO world super middleweight champion Isaac “The Golden Boy” Chilemba (15-1, with 8 knockouts) and Tommy “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen (11-0, with 8 knockouts) at Emperors Palace on Saturday night, every indication points to this being an unforgettable fight!

Judging by the IBO champion’s routine summary at today’s press conference, that he’ll “beat Oosthuizen so comprehensively that it’ll leave no doubt that I’m a true IBO world champion”, it seems patently clear that the 23-year-old titleholder has no fear or trembling of his brutal-hitting adversary.

That could be a faulty judgement, however, because the 21-year-old Oosthuizen has awesome punching power, having sent 77% of his victim’s home early.

Incidentally, Oosthuizen was originally pencilled in to fight Australia’s Michael Bolling for the vacant IBO world super middleweight crown on June 19, 2010, only for Oosthuizen to sustain serious cuts over one of his eves, purportedly as a result of a motor vehicle accident, and due to his withdrawal from the fight, the clever-boxing Chilemba had the opportunity to lift the title, which he did in consummate style.

By the way, Oosthuizen’s last call to a ‘shootout’ was when he blasted the respected Saul Roman to defeat at the end of April at Emperors Palace!

As former sparring partners, Chilemba, who last scored a knockout in July, 2008, when he halted Chamunorwa Gonorende in 4 rounds, reckons that the 6’4” Tommy Gun will have a hard time keeping the champion away from him, and judging by what the author saw in one of several workouts, Chilemba certainly held his own!

Yet as they say, sparring is not fighting and let’s never forget that some of the ring’s most extraordinary athletes looked surprisingly ineffectual when sparring!

“I reckon the Chilemba camp will look to open my eye cuts” said Oosthuizen, but if that happens it will only strengthen my resolve” concluded the omnipotent Tommy Gun.  Both fighters were well inside the junior middleweight limit at today’s pre-fight weigh-in!

In the main-undercard fight on the star-studded bill, the withdrawal of former two-time IBF world junior lightweight champion Malcolm Klassen, because of his former promoter not reaching agreement with him to fight, meant Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman had to do some serious reshuffling of his crop of fighters and thankfully, South African junior lightweight champion Sipho “Tsunami” Taliwe has been cleared by the WBC to fight for that organization’s vacant International junior lightweight crown against the Filipino Vinvin Rufino (29-11-3, with 13 knockouts).

A professional since 2004, Taliwe has however, been relatively starved of action and as a blistering puncher (11-2-1, with 10 knockouts), this boxer/puncher from Aliwal-north, in the Eastern Cape may well turn out to be a box-office magnet.

In what could be an up-and-down battle of attrition, South Africa’s two-time All-Africa lightweight champion Jason “Badman” Bedeman (13-0-2, with 10 knockouts) has plainly got his work cut out for him when he gets ready to trade punches with Daniel Dorrego of Argentina. The merciless hitting Dorrego has won 29 out of 31 fights and has stopped 21 of his victims!

In heavyweight action, possibly South Africa’s most acclaimed fighter of the past two decades, Flo “The Demolition Man” Simba (7-0, with 6 knockouts) faces his first overseas opponent when he squares up to veteran Mauro Adrian Ordiales, who has a resume of 23-7-0, with an incredible 22 knockouts!

At age 22, the 96 kg Simba will surely be looking to unload one of his cracking punches before the ringwise Argentine settles down. Of similar height to Simba, the Hispanic may be considered a journeyman in the dreadnought ranks, but his power and experience alone, makes him extremely dangerous!

Grant “The Fireball” Fourie has withdrawn from the bill because of a recurring illness and his place has been taken by Joseph Modise, who will meet the lavishly talented Bongani Dlamini over a slated 8 rounds in a lightweight bout!

I think the fight on saturday night is going to be one of the best fights in history, and hopefully our GUN will get acknowledged for what he can do in the ring, come on guys, GUN Having 4 titles at the age of 21? Cant beat that, im willing to take back my words if im wrong, but i know GUN is so focused at the moment that he will bring a fight to remember to the ring, i’m so excited about the fight that i get butterflies on my stomach knowing that im gna be there when GUN re-writes history in South-African Boxing, GOD BLESS GUN, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY LET IT BE A SAFE FIGHT FOR BOTH FIGHTERS

South Paw yes 4 titles. But 4 minor titles and he’s not beaten anybody special to win any of those belts. Sure he is good but i’m just saying. Those belts mean nothing because first of all they’re only IBO and secondly they’re youth and intercontinental titles. When you wanna talk about a proper world champion, you can talk about WBA. WBC, and IBF. And even WBO.

Giovani ,yes you right.it might be 4 minor titles but Tommy will have it written in the records as 4 titles never mind what people want to call it.Let the GUN show them how its done

sorry uppercut but no it wont be written in the records. The kinda stuff that gets written in records are stuff like mike tyson begi the youngest world heavy champ ever. Like Wilfred Benitez winning a world title at 17yrs old. Not thomas oosthuisen from van dyk park winning ibo youth and intercontinental titles a 21.

Stepping stones indeed and good luck to both. I think isaac is world class. He’ll be a good test for tommy. If tommy beats him then i’ll say well done. Because he would be beating a good opponent, and tommy is still young. But i cant see him beating isaac. Dont forget isaac had the better of him in sparring. Its only sparring but its the closest you’ll get to a real fight

I think this could be his big breakthrough to what he needs, i’d just love the “Gun” to prove the critics wrong!

Britt. If he had such bad flue then why did he spar? Now he’s making excuses after the sparring blaming it on flue. Thats pathetic. A real man would say yes he did get the better of me in sparring and thats boxing. Just admit it. Nothing wrong with that. Many champions have looked bad in sparring but they dont blame it on flue. Thats bullshit. Period!
