Many of South African society’s big hitters will be in attendance when The Night of the Big Little Men is staged at Emperors Palace on January 27.

The event is officially a benefit box ‘n dine tournament in aid of Baby Jake Matlala, but there will also be a world title fight in the offing, plus fights featuring some of SA’s best talent.

General Bheki Cele has confirmed his attendance, as have Irvin Khoza, Fikile Mbalula and Tokyo Sexwale. An invitation has also been extended to President Jacob Zuma’s office.

While Hekkie Budler and Gideon Buthelezi are hard at work in preparing for their IBO junior-flyweight title bout, there is plenty of interest in heavyweight Flo Simba and lightweight Alex Jonker.

Jonmker went straight into the big time when making his debut at Emperors Palace in November.

“I don’t think it’s too early to talk of his potential,” said Jeff Ellis, former fighter-turned-manager and promoter. “Flashing signs of Charlie Weir were evident in his style. It was a dream first fight for the former SA amateur champion.”

Golden Gloves! this website is not what it used to be. It is so obvias that only Herold Volbergts boxers are of any imprtance on this website. Please give the mainbout in this box and dine the credit they deserve. Stop this nonsense with Simba. He needs to box a worthy apponant before he can be rated. Talk about the two champs who have the belts.
