Tommy Oosthuizen will be in the deep end against Aaron Pryor in Mississippi this weekend
Tommy Oosthuizen is itching to fight and put on a good show this weekend – especially as he was off-form in his last fight against William Gare in June.
The unbeaten IBO super-middleweight champion puts his crown on the line in the US this weekend against slick American Aaron Pryor jnr, famously son of the original “Hawk” and a good fighter himself.
Oosthuizen and trainer Harold Volbrecht have been in the US for three weeks; a good move given that temperatures there have pushed 40 degrees.
“He’s looking sharp and Harold informs me that he’ll be in peak shape come fight night,” said promoter Rodney Berman, who recently arrived in Biloxi where the fight will be on the undercard of the Jan Zaveck-Andre Berto IBF welterweight title bout.
Oosthuizen has already sent one sparring partner packing, while others have apparently sucked up a lot of punishment in the gym.
Pryor (14-2) is coming off a career-defining win against Librado Andrade and is very much a boxer who uses the ring as well as his speed to maximum advantage. The southpaw Oosthuizen may therefore need to go looking for him and press the action, not least because the bout will also be broadcast before an American audience on HBO.
“Every fighter dreams of cracking the American market,” said Berman. “This is his chance.”
The tournament will be broadcast live on SuperSport 2 from 4.30am on Sunday morning.

great news. Let’s hope for a composed and clear headed Tommy who thinks while boxing and wins. Mr Berman, many people not on premium subscriber packages with dstv are requesting if the tournament can also be live on channel 247 on dstv? Thank you

Does anyone know if there is any interest in the states regards this fight. I cannot even find much news and hype on the net. Big oppurtunity, only if people are watching! Tommy can win, but wether he will win is another matter. Let’s hope. Owen is spot on. Even folks with the minimum dstv pakage get channels 247 and 200, so if the card can be televised on either of those channels, many more people can enjoy top boxing. Can you pull some strings Mr Berman?

Well done Thomas … I don’t know about the rest of you’ll but I rate that was a outstanding performance’ by young Thomas Oosthuizen nevertheless, he’ got hit one-or-two times the boy did well! He did what was expected of him and I’m not sure if Rodney is satisfied or not but from a hard core spectators point of view, I rate Oosthuizen is the cream of the Golden Gloves crop! Take care

Great fight Tommy, congratulations! Very good performance, you walked and ducked into a punch every now and then but you had him under pressure for the most part. A true champion, you make us proud.
