Current WBA Pan African super middleweight champion Tommy “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen is on course for a crack at the IBO world super middleweight title on June 18 at Emperors Palace. So says Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman.
It is reliably understood that the current IBO super middleweight champion Sakio Bika will soon be stripped of his championship due to inactivity.
Yet before the target of a world title bout can be attained, two assignments await the omnipotent punching Tommy Gun!
Firstly there’s the matter of accounting for Zambia’s John Chibuta, who’ll be challenging Oosthuizen for the latter’s WBA Pan African super middleweight crown on the PRELUDE bill at Emperors Palace on February 27, and then providing the lanky South African prevails, he’ll have the opportunity of a ‘warm up’ fight in Britain, under the auspices of Ricky Hatton Promotions. “I spoke to IBO President Ed Levine and he believes that Oosthuizen is an exceptional talent and is quite agreeable to have him challenge for IBO world honours on our June extravaganza in South Africa” said Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman.
The Emperors Palace extravaganza on June 18, will coincide with the football action in the FIFA World Cup (which gets underway on June 11) and the CEO of GGP, along with his business associate in America, Art Pellulo of BANNER Promotions, have promised to stage a mammoth event, comparable to some of the most explosive tournaments ever held in South Africa. “Art and I are working hard on the composition of the June extravaganza, and by the time we’ve finalised the roster, fight fans will be treated to a feast of fistic action, the likes of which we haven’t seen in this country in a long while” said Berman.
Clearly Berman has a number of blossoming starlets penciled in for the June show, though he freely admits that much will depend on how the likes of Oosthuizen, Jason Bedeman, Isaac Chilembe, Tshfihiwa Munyai and Hekkie Budler fare in their forthcoming fights.
“As you know, Chilembe will be fighting in the USA in March, in defence of his WBC Intercontinental light heavyweight title, but providing he’s successful, he could well be one of our premier attractions on the June bill” concluded Berman.

He has the float, he has the sting; and not long after he will be the king of the ring.
Study he’s feet! Or are they to fast? Watch he’s hand s and be prepared for a blast (TM)
I believe this won’t be that difficult for Tommy to overcome. The Ibo Title is he’s.
Sooner or later Tommy name will be UP there with the {Frochs, Kesslers,}
For this boy dos not only have smooth moving feet, he is so patience, he controls a fight and fights in he’s comfort zone, and ow yes not to forget he’s left hand that my friend I still can’t find the word to describe that’s still pending.
But my prediction in the 5th round the rev will stop this fight T.K.O.
Good luck Tommy, the hard work always pays off.
Very nice.
Well said Jonathan. As a boxing fan with over 40-years experience, I have seen very few super middleweights with as much power and instinctive “meaness” as the Tommy Gun. in the ring…I mean, naturally.
Well done GGP.This kid will hold your name high.He will win the IBO world title.As britt says,He got patience and know how to take control of a fight.Look what he did to “The Storm”.He took the fight out of him and made him a breeze.Go for it Tommy Gun ,You are the best
