There will be no sparring for Tommy Oosthuizen for a few weeks after his surgery, set for Monday

Tommy Oosthuizen will have plastic surgery on his eye on Monday following his bruising points win against Aaron Pryor jnr in the US last weekend.

This follows an almost farcical sequence of events in America where the ringside doctor never had stitches to attend to the wound. “He then offered to use medical glue, but he had forgotten that,” said trainer Harold Volbrecht, who finally sorted it out with butterfly plasters.

While the wound isn’t especially bad, promoter Rodney Berman has urged it get attended to for fear that it opens in future fights.
Volbrecht was delighted with the success over Pryor, saying that Oosthuizen preferred fighting tall, rangy opponents.

“Tommy needs the range to box from a distance; this is why he did so well. Although he got caught a few times, he looked good going forward.”

Volbrecht presumably won’t like the word that Cameroon-born Sakio Bika is on Berman’s shopping list for a fight in November. The Aussie-based former IBO champion has been in with the best and is a squat and muscular boxer who bores forward.

Meanwhile, Berman is celebrating the news that Oosthuizen has moved up to number seven in the WBC rankings. Golden Gloves is therefore well set for an assault on the WBC with Simpiwe Vetyeka ranked number one, Tshifhiwa Munyai at six and Gideon Buthelezi on the verge of his title crack.

I’m no expert, but he is seeing one of the best docs today, so I am very hopeful he will be fine for November.

    Hi Mr Berman

I would look at Pablo Oscar Natalio Farias if i was u He is rated no 4 in the Wbc had a look at his record won 18 (KO 11) + lost 0 (KO 0) + drawn 0 ,It is Good Record but his apponents had bad records ,not Sakio Bika for now

Mr Berman why are we not seeing any comments of Budler.
We miss him and want to read more of him. I do believe he
is back and will prove it to all. Why is he not promoted as
much as Flo and Tommy. He has only has one loss. And he has
always been a croud pleaser. We his supporters want to see more of him on this site please!!!

I’m happy to read the tweet of Rodney regarding Lou Di Bella, wanting Tommy back in the US in December.

Rodney, will this mean that Tommy might not be on your November Bill ?
