Three-time international champion Tommy “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen (11-0, with 8 knockouts) may still be in the process of recovering from a recent motor vehicle accident, ahead of challenging Isaac “Golden Boy” Chilemba (15-0, with 8 knockouts) for the latter’s IBO world super middleweight title at Emperors Palace in November, but already the predatory Van Dyk Park southpaw is scouting the immediate horizon in search of a ‘warm up’ fight for September. “Tommy was at the WBO Africa title bout at the Wembley Arena last Thursday night in which Zimbabwe’s Tineyi Madidzo knocked out Mikey Schultz in the third round and he regards the hard punching Madidzo as an ideal ‘warm up’ in preparation for his championship contest against Chilemba” said trainer Harold “The Hammer” Volbrecht. “Clearly there is nothing innocuous about Tineyi, who can really hit and I certainly feel that his resume (9-6-0, with 4 knockouts) doesn’t begin to illustrate his level of talent” concluded Volbrecht. The fact that the murderous hitting Zimbabwean knocked out Schultz for the second time in a row, really bolsters the feasibility of the fight and Volbrecht is hopeful that Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman can tie up a deal for his lethal punching WBA Pan African champion. “I haven’t approached him (Berman) yet but after he (Berman) reads this, we’re hopeful that the fight will be made” said Volobrecht with a broad smile. What of the marketing aspect of such a fight? “It will be a show-stopper” added Volbrecht. “You see while I’ve no doubt that Tommy’s title contest against Chilemba will attract a record crowd in November, what better way for my guy to sharpen his claws than a match with Tineyi, who stopped Schultz in 87 seconds (the first bout) and at 1 minute, 11 seconds of the third round the second time around?” asked Volbrecht. While GGP Promoter Berman has yet to express any genuine interest in a Oosthuizen/Tineyi fight, man-about-boxing Jeff Ellis regards the contest as a sure-fire seller. “Mikey was tipped to reverse his previous loss to the Zimbabwean and now that the champion proved conclusively he’s the better man what could be a bigger box-office magnet than a contest between South Africa’s most explosive punching super middleweight and the destructive hitting Madidzo. I’d hazard a guess that every one of Mikey Schultz’s supporters would be rooting their hearts out for Tommy” An additional bonus for the Tommy Gun would of course be a fourth international title and whereas his mentor Volbrecht regards his charge as a bona fide word beater, the threat of Madidzo landing one of his famed haymakers must be a worrying factor. “Frankly I’m not perturbed at all” said the Hammer. “You see a precision puncher boxer like Tommy will rip holes in the champion’s defence. Taking nothing away from Madidzo, but he just hasn’t the all-around ability to trouble Tommy, who has to be one of the most electrifying super middleweights on the planet”. Are you listening Mr Berman?

My word I don’t want to say this but, here goes nothing Mike you’re and Street legend But when it gets to the ring Cover that glass jaw, if Thomas lands that left hand it’s “Good night Shultz” Mikey the other night you fought at Wembley I really thought your dead but hey make the come back and lets see you take on the best in Boksburg. All I can say this will be a crowed puller; once again it’s the South vs. the eats. Let’s get ready to “RRRRRRRRRRUUUUUMMMMMBBBBBBLLEEEEE”

I can not see why Tommy should be put against Mikey. Mikey is a bit stronger than Lovett but they can both give a punch. I don’t think Tommey can not knock Mickey out in the ring. Its what they want to do with him aftr the fight. In the street. When they box the style they are used to 10 to one. That is how the boys in the South fight now a days. With respect Terry I trust it was not the case when you where younger.

Tommy need the fight against Isaac, just to show he is the best in S.A.after that GGP will make sure Tommy gets in the ring with the rest of the world.Isaac must remember sparing is not boxing,Tommy will beat Isaac on his worst day & knock him out on his best day.Isaac must go and look at his trainer & manager if he wants to talk about in-experienced ,that is another joke.

Jeesh, I watched that Shultz fight last night and I thought that straight tight killed him! That being said, Tommy would walk a fight against Tineyi Madidzo! Its a mismatch an I hope it doesnt get made.
July 17, 2010 at 11:44 am, britt said:
Did you see classy it looked like mikey was dead after that blow? I on the other hand hope that fight happens. Imagine what crowed such a fight will pull I mean the whole of the south will be here to support Tommy just so that Tommy could teach Tineyi a lesson that he was lucky.
July 19, 2010 at 7:22 am, Classy said:
And how would you feel forking out money for a one way hiding that Tommy would give that boy? I like competative fights and I just dont see that as being competative…All Tommy stands to gain from such a fight is the possibilty of another belt but nothing in the way of meaningful experience. The record that Madidzo brings is patchy at best…
July 19, 2010 at 8:44 am, Britt said:
Good statement Classy but Thomas really doesn’t care about the miner title he just wants the warm up so bad against him!

Buhle your comments are not welcome on this website and far from being someone who “knows nothing about boxing”, Uppercut knows more than most, especially a person like you who has to resort to RACIST comments! Please don’t bother to send us any more emails as I shall instruct our website organisers not to display any of your comments.

Buhle ,are you sure Isaac trainer is black, because I did not notice, but being uneducated like yourself you will hide behind racism. Buhle, I would like to inform you that Elias was my first trainer in my pro career. Being a ex S.A. champion I have spared against both Tommy and Isaac therefore i know my comment is fair. Buhle if i am not mistaken are you not the heavy weight, that did not make it in South Africa? thats why you make such bad comments .
July 21, 2010 at 3:48 pm, Simon said:
Let’s not entertain the race card stint Buhle has pulled. Very unfortunate that opinions about a trainer are twisted to become a race issue. Pathetic really.
July 22, 2010 at 12:39 pm, Tanya said:
Buhle what you clearly don’t realize is that most boxers and trainers, black and white are friends outside the ring so you can stick the race card you are playing up where it fits. This site is clearly not for you, rather joint politics.
