Will “Badman” Bedeman Be South Africa’s Most Exciting Fighter of 2010?

There is a growing belief among fight pundits that 21-year-old Jason “Badman” Bedeman (12-0-2, with 10 knockouts) is one of the most exciting pound-for-pound fighters in South Africa today. Indeed since joining Golden Gloves Promotions in 2009, the Bedeman star has constantly been on the rise and under the astute guidance of trainer Manny Fernandes, the Rosettenville slugger has yet to taste defeat, winning two African Championship titles along the way. The talented Grant Fourie and Joseph Modise were Bedeman’s first two opponents under the GGP banner and after they’d both been beaten inside the distance, the power-punching Badman resumed action in 2010, wearing the IBO Africa lightweight strap around his waist. “It was only after Bedeman stopped Grant Fourie in the 10th round of a splintering fight, to win the vacant IBO Africa lightweight crown that I realised what a warrior he is” said GGP Promoter Rodney Berman.

In February 2010, Bedeman added to his laurels by rising from two first-round knockdowns to explosively halt Bilal Mohammad in the second heat of a fever-pitched battle for the vacant WBA Pan Africa lightweight title. “If anyone ever doubted Jason’s endurance, that particular fight should have convinced them that he’s one of the most resilient boxers in the country” remarked trainer Fernandes. “Moreover in his very next outing, against the superbly gifted Bongani Dlamini, he climbed through the ropes as a betting outsider, only to knock the stuffing out of his rival inside three rounds” added Fernandes.

With a slot on the “CRUNCH TIME” world title bill at Emperors Palace on September 18 between IBO world welterweight champion Lovemore Ndou and Bongani Mwelase already assured, Bedeman will be aiming to make it three stoppages in a row, when he takes on respected Ghanaian Sam Amoaka (6-2) over a slated 10 rounds. “Bedeman certainly qualifies for recognition as one of this country’s most electrifying pugilists at present and methinks that another thrilling triumph on September 18 could substantially fortify that assumption” said GGP’s Rodney Berman.

“There are gifted boxers, ring stylists and murderous hitters under the GGP banner but I’d have to say that Bedeman, who is essentially a 17-carot slugger, compares favourably with the best of them in terms of radiating excitement” said GGP director Gary Pretorius. Trainer Fernandes believes that the secret to his boxer’s box-office popularity, is his direct and uncomplicated approach to the fight game. ‘Jason may not be a Fancy Dan boxer but he’s no brainless slugger either! In fact he’s what purists call a ‘thinking man’s fighter’ and this coupled with his incredible heart and relentless tenacity has seen him catapult up the popularity stakes, though I freely admit that having GGP market him made a world of difference. Fernandes concluded by saying, “I’ve no doubt that Jason would rip apart the majority of homespun lightweights as well as a healthy chunk of Europe’s leading practitioners”.

I have a kind suggestion, why don’t GGP put our young lightweight up against Zolani?
That would prove most doubters he’s ready for the big spotlights….. Or maybe a trip to Texas?
I think they should give young Bad-Man more advanced chances from here, head a Bill with a world title fight or something? He’s an enormous draw card and that I could assure you…
    God bless GGP.

Keep a lookout for Bedeman, he is the new World Champ as far as we’re concerned!!! And I’m sure we have alot of people who think the same!!!
